              The Family and Descendants of DIEDRICH STEINKE and THERESIA WERLING


    Diedrich Steinke, the second child of Joseph and Mary Kaiser Steinke, was born October 17, 1841
    in Rhine, Shelby County, Ohio. He married Theresia Werling on August 16, 1859 in Fryburg.
    She was born March 8, 1834 in St. Johns, Auglaize County, Ohio to Stephen and Rosalia. Knapper
    Werling. She died April 30, 1915 in Fryburg and Diedrich died November 19, 1904.  Both are
    buried a Rhine.


    Theresia was first married to Bernard Schnippel on February 13, 1855 at Fryburg. He died in
    1858 and was in his late 20's. To them were born two children: Katherine Schnippel born
    December 7, 1855 - died June 19, 1928 Wapakoneta and married Louis Duckro -- and Bernard
    Joseph Schnippel born October 18, 1857 - died February 29, 1876.  No attempt will be made to
    include the Schnippel children in this chapter.


    Diedrich Steinke and Theresia Werling had eleven children:


         Mary Anna Steinke born July 14, 1860 - died February 2, 1910 in Fryburg
         John Steinke born June 26, 1862 - died November 26, 1937 - Never married
         Peter Steinke born February 25, 1864 Rhine - died May 1, 1877
         Anna Louisa Steinke born August 28, 1866 Fryburg - died February 19, 1908
         Stephen Bernard Steinke born November 5, 1868 - died January 10, 1956
         Bernadina Steinke born November 27, 1870 - died June 18, 1873
         Michael Joseph Steinke born June 18, 1872 - died         1959
         August Steinke born March 12, 1874 Rhine - died March 27, 1907
         Philomena Steinke born April 9, 1876 - died August 2, 1876
         Agnes Steinke born July 25, 1878 - died July 25, 1878 Rhine
         Elizabeth Steinke born March 2, 1883 in Cincinnati (she was adopted by Diedrich and
           Theresia) - died March 31, 1941 Auglaize County


    This sketch is written to provide a list of the descendants of the Diedrich Steinke and Theresia
    Werling branch of the Joseph J. Steinke and Mary Kaiser family only.  An index, listed by
    husbands' names, is included at the end of this sketch for easier reference.
